Looking for work is a long and stressful process that requires careful and through preparations. However, you shouldn’t sell yourself short. Looking other people in the field will help understand when considering job offers.

Question 1: What do company look for when hiring a candidate?

Before trying to understand how others consider job offers. it is important to try to understand what companies look for when looking hiring new employees.

Hiring new people has always been an open process, companies choose different qualification for different purposes, but there are some important things they look for.

According to stack overflow, Technical skills are what matters in the job, so its the most important aspect of hiring new people. Team work is just as important so having these skills is crucial in ensuring long term success in the work environment.

Although education and certificates are important, in this field they take second place as many of the situations people deal with regularly can be solved if you have enough experience and know how to use open source platforms.

One thing to keep in mind that this the opinion of newish engineer. The age range of Stack overflow respondent is between 25–30 so there might be a bias at play.

Question 2: What did survey participants Regard as an important factor when choosing a company to work for?

According to the stack overflow participants, there exists some factors a company has to meet in varying levels of importance.

Some reasons are more important than others, like what is the industry you will be involved in, because it directly related to your professional development and what is the path you will take forward.

And although professional development is important, its important to keep in mind that allowing a good and productive work environment is just as important so the commute time and the salary are crucial in ensuring any kind of long term success.

The level of technology available and the role assigned to the individual in his/her workplace take second place as long as the conditions are favorable since he/she will still get experience either way.

Company projects hold an important in any individual resume so its important to know that such projects are provided since they provide experience.

And although diversity is considered really important by some groups , others don't really take that into account.

Question 3:Compensation and benefits other than base salary that are important to respondents?

According to the survey, respondents consider Vacation/days off as one of the most important benefits, as well as remote work options show.

Health benefits and work hours come next along with equipment and professional development since they are just as important to the person.

child care and charity aren't really considered important , thought a likely reason is that the the average age of the respondents is 25/35

Conclusion

In this article, we discussed what you should consider about when looking at job offers.

  1. We looked at what companies look for when considering new candidates, practical skills are valued more highly than their educational background.
  2. You should consider your environment and tools that the company uses when looking at their job offers.
  3. We found that according to participants it’s important to consider your freedom and comfort when looking at job benefits.

These finding are from an observational and not from a formal study.
